Naked in the hall

I called daycare this morning to talk to them about Ashtyn's shot records, and apparently just at the right time. The front desk woman tells me "By the way, your kid is back there naked in the hall having a fit." I laughed because I thought she was just being funny. My kid doesn't strip, EVER. It's usually a struggle to get her out of her clothes.

Not today. My kid really was having a toddler moment and had stripped her shirt off, then burst into tears. I asked to talk to her and tried to calm her down by phone, but I couldn't for laughing. Just the thought of asking my naked toddler why she was stripping, for the first time in her life! And so not what I pictured I'd be doing this morning.

After school, I was able to get a little insight into the mishap. She told me that she took her shirt off, but it was inside out and couldn't get it back on. I'm still not totally sure why she took her shirt off, but I have a theory. The only time I tell her to go potty at home is right before I put her in the bath tub. The rest of the time, she just goes when she needs to. So she maybe got a little confused and started stripping for the tub. She's not good at turning things right side out so I'm guessing that she got embarrased and frustrated because she couldn't get it back on. So she cried.

Time to talk to the daycare and get their side of the story. No one was there this afternoon that saw the incident. I'm not sure that Ashtyn's story was right and she's that innocent. I'm also not sure they handled the situation properly either. If they were telling her to put her shirt back on without offering help, they would have only compounded her frustration and embarrasment.

But how many people are ever going to hear in their lives "...your kid is back there naked in the hall...."

*still snickering*
